Good news: the Senate and the House have each formally adopted single-body resolutions urging the federal government to restore equal access to federal benefits for COFA citizens residing in the United States. Thank you and congratulations once again to all who submitted testimony, attended hearings, and otherwise supported our advocacy around these resolutions! (you can see these resolutions here:
As an update, the concurrent forms of these resolutions have crossed over to their non-originating bodies, i.e. the Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR108) has crossed over to the House, and the House Concurrent Resolution (HCR117) has crossed over to the Senate.
SCR108 has been referred to the House Committee on Veterans, Military, & International Affairs and Culture & the Arts (chaired by Representative Mark Takai), and the House Committee on the Judiciary (chaired by Representative Karl Rhoads). HCR117 has not yet been referred to committees in the Senate.
We will work with our allies in the legislature to see if we can get hearings for these measures in the coming weeks. The deadline for the resolutions to be heard by all referred committees in their non-originating body is April 22
