In honor of the feature film FALL OUT written and directed by Vilsoni Hereniko, based on the award-winning novel MELAL by Robert Barclay
Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner’s poetry focuses on militarism and the nuclear legacy, climate change, and prejudice against Micronesians, especially in the United States. In September 2014, she was chosen from mor e than 500 applicants around the world to perform at the opening of the United Nations Climate Change Summit in New York. A standing ovation erupted, and since then she has become a powerful voice in global conversations on climate change.

James Perez Viernes is from the village of Santa Rita on the island of Guam and is an adjunct faculty member in the History and Chamorro Studies programs at the University of Guam.
He will be defending his dissertation on Thursday, May 14, 2015, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Sakamaki A-201 on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. This is open to the public.
His dissertation title is “Negotiating Manhood: Chamorro Masculinities and US Military Colonialism, 1898-1941”
