And now the good news:
CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all who submitted testimony, came to the capitol, and testified in support of SCR108 and SR74, the Senate version of our resolution. Thanks to your support and the generous support of the Senators, the Resolutions were unanimously PASSED, UNAMENDED!
You can see the measure (and testimony) here:
After a floor vote (which should be a mere formality), this means that the Hawai'i State Senate, through SR74, has officially spoken on behalf of equality and justice for the COFA community! If the House hears and approves of SCR108, then the entire state legislature will have stated the same.
Mahalo nui to Committee chairs Kalani English, Suzanne Chun Oakland, and Will Espero and members of the Senate Committees on Transportation and International Affairs (TIA), Human Services (HMS), and Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs (PSM)! Special thanks to Senator Kalani English who went above and beyond to ensure that these resolutions were introduced and heard well before the cutoff deadline. Also, mahalo nui to FSM Consulate General Kandito Eleizar, who made a personal appearance to testify on behalf of the resolutions.
