Thank you very much to all those who submitted testimony in support of HCR117 and HR88, the House versions of our resolution urging the restoration of federal benefits for the COFA community in the U.S. Thanks to your support, the House Committee on Judiciary ("JUD") voted to PASS these resolutions, with minor amendments.
JUD was the final House committee referral for these measures. Therefore, after a floor vote, HR88 will become an official statement of the House of Representatives (with its companion SCR74 already now an official statement of the Senate). HCR117 will now cross over to the Senate, which will decide whether this resolution will become an official statement of the Hawai'i State Legislature.
Mahalo nui to JUD Committee Chair Karl Rhoads and Vice Chair Sharon Har for hearing these measures -- and to all who testified or showed up in support, including:
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs
The Hawai'i Civil Rights Commission
Hawaiʻi Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice
Hepatitis Support Network of Hawaiʻi
The Japanese American Citizens League Honolulu Chapter
Joakim Jojo Peter
Leslie Novosel, PhD.
Dr. Christine T. Lipat
Mahalo nui also to Universe Yamase, Stephen Maybir, Innocenta Sound-Kikku, Philios Uruman, Mike Mariano, and Wayne Tanaka who showed up in support of the measures at the hearing.
Mahalo nui and congratulations once again on a job well done!
